Why was I forced to take a break, and what did it teach me?

Recently, people close to me forced me to take a moment of solitude and disconnection. I had become irritable, impatient, and exhaustion had taken over. Yet I knew it wasn’t simply a lack of sleep, it was the kind of fatigue that comes from living in a world that constantly overstimulates us with unnatural things like social media, endless ads, streaming, and all that virtual world that fits in our pocket.

The worst part is that, within this complex routine, everything becomes a giant equation. You wonder where to start, how to prioritize. At first, I saw this invitation to pause as something unnecessary, even risky, if I stopped for a moment, I would only fall further behind.

Why does simply stopping change our perspective?

It’s only when we take the time that we realize how essential it truly is. I believe our society demands a lot from people. The challenge is to constantly become a better version of ourselves. To do that, we need to remember that, as humans, we are spiritual beings.

I think spirituality is often made too complicated. In truth, you don’t have to do anything to be spiritual, you already are! You just need to start giving meaning to what that truly represents.

How to start meditating without overcomplicating it?

For those who have never tried meditation, let’s bring it back to something simple and tangible. Take a moment off, by yourself, find a place where there’s little sound, few people, ideally none. In the best case, choose nature: a forest, a lakeside, somewhere near water. If that’s not possible, sit in a calm room and play soft nature sounds to block out external noise, as if you were outdoors.

Focus on the sound of the wind in the trees, the rustling leaves, and the distant song of birds. Close your eyes and notice the natural light filtering through your eyelids. Take deep breaths and keep your attention on your surroundings. To me, that’s the perfect first session. The goal is to disconnect from the outside world and, through a peaceful environment, focus on... nothing, the void itself.

Results after just one hour?

Even just one hour can bring an incredible energetic shift. Mentally and physically, you’ll feel more relaxed, your muscles at ease, your mind lighter, and your energy level will rise again. With your battery recharged, you’ll find more patience in daily situations, more patience with others, more focus. It will become easier to devote time to what truly matters, make better choices, and get things done with clarity.

If you’re like me, you probably work more than full-time, strive to excel in many things, maintain countless relationships, manage debts, responsibilities, and balance work and family. With all that comes a certain pressure. If you don’t take time to release that pressure, it’s normal, and even inevitable, to develop anxiety and that kind of stress no one really wants to deal with.

How to create the habit of taking a break?

If you’re in the same mindset I was when I was pushed to take time for myself, chances are you won’t do it voluntarily. To truly make space for stillness, you need the right tools, until it becomes automatic, part of a balanced routine. The goal is to find a rhythm between running to achieve and pausing to recharge.

Among the simple and accessible tools: create a peaceful, cozy corner at home. It could be a small nook in a room, or an entire space dedicated to calm. Add accessories that make it inviting and comfortable: a good meditation cushion (Lilbee or otherwise), a weighted blanket for grounding, soft lighting or candles, and gentle background music, or even better, the soothing sounds of nature. (Add soft, natural colors and calming elements.) If it’s hard to stay motivated alone, try group sessions. There are plenty of books to help you discover your meditation style, as well as online resources, courses, or podcast recordings led by meditation teachers to help you practice on your own later.

For me, the best tool will always be nature itself, a forest, a lakeside, a quiet spot outdoors. The gentle rhythm of wind over water or through the trees, the steady sound of a stream or rainfall, the distant hum of wildlife... this connection helped me truly disconnect from everything else.

It was alone in nature that I realized how powerful it is to recenter yourself, to clear your mind, how vital and energizing it is, and how simple. No big investment needed, just a bit of willingness.

Why try it at least once, and what can it trigger?

I hope this text serves, even for one person, as a small spark of motivation. That it inspires someone to pause, to breathe, to recenter, even just once. I know that first time can be a turning point. Once you’ve tried what we call meditation, or any practice that invites you to stop, breathe, and find stillness, you’ll feel so good and recharged that it won’t be your last time.

Believe me, if you have goals in life, personal or shared, you need to take care of your own energy and your inner balance to truly be able to achieve everything you want, and to confidently say, "sky is the limit."

In conclusion

Choose a moment, prepare your space, embrace the silence, clear your thoughts.
Taking an hour to breathe is offering the rest of your day a softer rhythm.
Start small, set up a simple corner, listen to the wind, and let stillness do its work. The rest will follow.
